About us
We are a young Christian church in Leipzig – and by now we have a daughter church, Generations Church International. We love God, we love people, and we want to bring the two together.
Our vision
-
1. Love God
The first and greatest commandment in the Bible is the most important thing for our church. We get to know God through his Word and through prayer, and we want to keep growing in both.
-
2. Love people
Whatever your age, gender or skin colour – everyone should feel welcome with us. Hospitality matters a lot to us; we want to live real relationships.
-
3. Follow Jesus
We walk through life together and encourage each other. In our small groups there is room for everything life brings – joy, pain, experiences of faith and praying together.
-
4. Pass it on
Jesus changes lives – many of us have experienced that. What we experience and learn with him shouldn’t stop with us. We want to reach the next generation with this great hope.
How it all began
Generations Church is an evangelical church plant that Elina and Tyler Charvat started in July 2016 as a service in their living room. Since June 2017 we have been meeting on Sundays at the old trade fair grounds in the Pavillon der Hoffnung to worship together.
We are a young church, excited to share our faith with others and to discover what God has in store for Leipzig.
How Generations Church International came to be
From the very beginning we had it on our hearts to plant not just one church but several. In spring 2019 – we had been in Leipzig for three years – a preacher at a conference of our missions organisation challenged us: What would you do in the next three years if you knew that God was in it with you? Tyler wrote on his card: “Plant GCI – Generations Church International”. Elina wrote: “Church plant number two”. That is how the journey with GCI began in our hearts.
Then Covid hit. At the beginning of 2021 we came back from the US to a full lockdown, and our dream started to look unrealistic. The church needed time to rebuild after being online for so long. Tyler prayed for direction and felt God ask: “Do you trust me? Then this will happen naturally. You don’t have to make it happen.”
Around June/July 2021 we were carrying a large, heavy box into the building where we meet – and suddenly a man appeared beside us and helped. His name was Michael; he was from Egypt and spoke English better than German. He and his family are missionaries who felt called to Leipzig, and soon they came to our services regularly. When they moved into an apartment, Michael said: “I really think this apartment would be great to start something in.” Michael and Sara had exactly what we had on our hearts: a church where we invite more and more people to come and grow.
In February 2022 we started meeting every Sunday night in that lovely home – and God has been blessing it. Today Generations Church International meets every Sunday at 4 pm at the Ring Café on Roßplatz. It took almost exactly three years – which just shows God’s faithfulness and his timing, not ours.
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

Tyler & Elina Charvat
Pastors and founders of Generations Church
tyler@generationschurch.deWe are Tyler and Elina Charvat. We grew up in Kansas (USA) and met through Elina’s brother-in-law, who worked with Tyler at a car dealership. Together we founded a youth group in our home church, got married after three years of dating and eventually became youth pastors there.
As a little girl, Elina already felt a call to share her faith with other people. Tyler invited Jesus into his life when he was 23 and has followed him faithfully ever since. Through “Assemblies of God World Missions” we came to Germany as missionaries – first to Rostock, where we supported a church’s youth work from 2012 to 2014, and then to Leipzig to plant a church.
We have been amazed by the faithfulness of God, and it has been a privilege to know him so intimately through the process.
